Family Promise stands for more than providing physical shelter and support. Their promise is to empower homeless families to create a path toward stable, long term housing and provide peace and security along the journey. Family Promise of Brevard, Inc. is a 501 (C)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing assistance for homeless families in Brevard County.

They provide a grant that matches, dollar for dollar, funds raised within the community and assist with setup of the local program, fundraising, reporting and accounting requirements.

Family Promise of Brevard has teamed up with LEAD Brevard for a Leadership Action Project to raise awareness about family homelessness in Brevard County and create a call to action. “You’re the Key” campaign (#yourethekey) is a call to action to join the Sheriff of Brevard County, and other community leaders to represent the key to ending homelessness.

In Brevard County, more than 50% of children utilize free and reduced meal programs through their schools, and, though students are provided for during the week, the weekend is often unaccounted for. As a result, many kids are at risk of childhood hunger and malnutrition.  The Children’s Hunger Project, Inc. exists to help elementary schools provide food for the weekend to as many kids as possible every week.

The South Brevard Sharing Center Inc. (SBSC) was founded in 1971 as a non-profit, community based agency whose mission is to support, strengthen and empower families to achieve self-sufficiency in south Brevard County, FL. This assistance includes food, clothing, household items and financial vouchers for prescriptions, utilities, rent and other miscellaneous items through case-managed services. Seasonally, the Sharing Center also provides food and gifts over the holiday season, as well as backpacks with supplies for children to start the new school year.

Family has always been at the heart of Eckerd Connects. When founded in 1968 by Jack and Ruth Eckerd, the legendary power couple was often asked what motivated them to start a non-profit in rural Florida. Their answer was always the same. “It’s the Kids.” Today those words still hold true – but much like other families, ours has grown. Nearly five decades later with a presence in 20 states, their family of services has expanded to include foster care, adoption, workforce development, aid for the homeless, transitional services for troubled youth, and so much more.
